Roads to Justice: International Criminal Justice and Global Politics

The annual film, lecture, and debate series Roads to Justice starts the new year with an episode about the defense at international criminal justice. Transitional Justice has many different faces. History has seen (inter)national tribunals, truth and reconciliation committees and local coping mechanisms. How does a state that survived mass violence and mass killings build a new future, and what mechanisms does it use for coming to terms with its past? This annual series – organized by the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies and various partners – discusses roads to justice around the globe. On 20 February is the first episode of this year’s Roads to Justice series with the theme: International Criminal Justice and Global Politics: Perspectives of the Defence With lectures by: - Courtenay Griffiths QC Griffiths defended Charles Taylor, the former president of Liberia, before the Special Court for Sierra Leone. - Victor Koppe Koppe is currently defending Nuon Chea - Brother Number Two - before the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia.
