Integration in The Netherlands: Dreams and Challenges Public discussion and workshops on of do's and don'ts for successful integration
Integration of newcomers into any society is not an easy process. Both for the newcomers themselves and for the receiving society. Integration also has many different dimensions that make it a complex business: social, cultural, economic, etc.
After the influx of groups of refugees from especially Syria since the summer of 2015, national government, municipalities and civil society organizations have proposed many solutions for a smooth integration. Not all of them have shown clearly positive results so far and some policy measures even create great confusion and uncertainty among refugees. One of the reasons of this failure could be a lack of consultation of refugees. Taking into account their own needs, qualities, ideas and suggestions for successful integration could be of great help to everyone.
Therefore, this event is intended to bring together policy makers and integration specialists from different organizations and municipalities and Syrian refugees in order to discuss the obstacles and solutions to successful integration in The Netherlands.
In the morning we will have several panel discussions about some specific aspects of integration like the labour market and social integration, where policy makers and refugees will share their knowledge and concerns. In the afternoon Syrians living in The Netherlands organize workshops to find solutions for some of the most urgent integration issues of this moment.
The day ends with music by the Rohana Overwater Ensemble and Syrian food.
